Saffyre Command Center

The World’s First Unified, Turn-Key Security Command Center for Monitoring and Controlling Multiple Properties

A thoughtful and holistic approach to a very big problem.

Agents manning a Security Command Center have a tremendous responsibility, with a great deal riding on their performance!

Saffyre Command Center brings multi-site monitoring to an entirely new level.

First, what is a Command Center?

So we’re all on the same page, a Command Center is an office used by a team of security agents to monitor and provide security services to one or more properties from that one office.

After touring many versions of the “Command Center” concept at a number of very elite properties over the years, we’ve identified many commonalities along with many common and very big shortfalls.

Commonalities that cause Big Problems

No thoughtful design.

Because the security industry has not provided a “Complete Solution” for a Command Center, security teams and high net-worth principals and their managers have been forced to cobble together a mix-match of different systems to create their “best guess” of a workable command center.

Why has the Security Industry failed here?

Different companies in the “security industry” typically focus on one narrow product (e.g. alarm or access control or video surveillance etc). These systems commonly use different communication protocols, have their own management hardware, software, and user interfaces. They are not designed to work together with other company’s narrowly focused systems. Each company has a self-interest to “not play well” with their competitors.

As new security functions are added, like radar and drones etc, this individual “product focus” just makes the complexity and non-interoperability problem worse.

Add to the above, there is the common practice of companies farming out hardware and software design and build. One manufacturer in Korea for example may make their hardware, while a software company in China writes the software for user
interfaces and device Apps for the same product. There is a multitude of serious problems with this manufacturing approach, not to mention the very serious Cybersecurity vulnerabilities inherent in this practice.

This status quo in the “security industry” adds a big problem for the security professional trying to do his or her already difficult but extremely important job.

There have been two common approaches that end users have used to try to cope with the above.

  1. Cobble together these different systems in a single office and try and manage the different user interfaces and controls.
  2. Use some sort of “Overlay System” in the office, with the goal of providing a single user interface for the security agent to manage the many different “sub-systems”. This approach adds yet another layer of complexity, along with its own reliability issues.

Clearly, this “old-fashioned” approach to creating a security command center is suboptimal, and certainly not thoughtful, holistic, or efficient.

Common shortfalls of the average “command center”

  • No intelligent integration of data from different systems for effective use. This makes for a huge missed opportunity and a waste of very valuable data.
  • Extra infrastructures are often required adding costs and reducing reliability.
  • Managing different systems results in unnecessarily high cognitive load for security agents, making them less sharp and attentive to the more important things. (this is a problem with many bad consequences)
  • Many IT/cyber vulnerabilities. This is a huge problem that the “cobbled together” approach cannot hope to address.
  • To cope with different user interfaces and controls of different systems, and to try to help the security agent “pay attention” to various things, regular audible alerts and screen reminders are commonly used. This keeps the agent’s sympathetic nervous system in a regular state of hyper-arousal or “fight or flight” which further adds to unnecessary cognitive drain, greatly reducing the agent’s abilities to do his important job!

Common shortfalls of surveillance camera monitoring

Commonly, static video feeds of many cameras from multiple properties are displayed on multiple monitors. This has several drawbacks.

  • It’s an unintelligent and inefficient use of space
  • It adds unnecessary cognitive load to the Agent
  • It actually causes the opposite effect that is desired

Instead of being more aware of what is happening, Agents over time subconsciously tend to ignore the many video feeds and pay attention to one or two “favorites” which causes them to often miss an important event on one of the other camera displays.

Even though these “average” command centers may look impressive to the uneducated observer, a thoughtful scrutiny reveals many opportunities for improvement.

There are even more shortfalls to the common “command center” set up, but you get the point. A needlessly complicated and disjointed “solution” does NOT provide an optimal result.

A thoughtful and holistic approach, for an intelligent and powerful result.

We developed Saffyre Command Center in tandem with the Saffyre Awareness and Control system. This provides a security team, monitoring multiple sites, with a seamless and fast user experience, and powerful, intelligent Awareness and Control
capabilities.

Just think for a moment…what really makes for a complete Security Command Center:

  • Designed at the start to work seamlessly together
  • Using the same communication protocols and sharing the same database (so all the valuable data can be put to good use!)
  • On a single, highly secure communication network

Saffyre Command Center incorporates, into a single and efficient system, all of the traditional functions of an “old fashioned” Command Center such as:

  • Burglar and Technical Alarms
  • Access control
  • Video surveillance
  • Radar surveillance with integrated camera control
  • Lighting control
  • Personnel monitoring and control
  • Listening and Talk Back features
  • And much more that we won’t discuss here.

This type of multi-functional integration gives your security team some tremendous advantages.

Saffyre Command Center provides you and your security teams with:

  • A simple and highly effective turn-key solution.
  • Intelligent surveillance camera viewing that displays the important camera views when you need them (you have to see this to understand how powerful this feature  is).
  • A single user interface that provides a global view of all the pertinent security information your teams need to have real Awareness of the entire situation (again, you have to see this to understand it’s power).
  • Built-in features that give your teams the ability to take effective, and even pre-decided and automated actions in real time during events.
  • Powerful advanced warning combined with automated actions that can be taken to prevent events long before they occur.
  • A simple, user-friendly UI (doesn’t require your security agents to go to engineering school to understand and use).
  • A distraction-free user environment that greatly reduces cognitive load, allowing your security teams to remain rested and alert, with a calm sympathetic nervous system.
  • Automated and very efficient network bandwidth management between your Command Center and the many sites you monitor and control.
  • Many cost savings by eliminating the need for multiple systems and infrastructures.
  • Specifically hardened against IT/Cyber attacks at it’s core. Saffyre has passed rigorous penetration testing.

The above bullets only highlight some of the benefits you will gain from Saffyre Command Center and it’s thoughtful holistic approach.
